Huguenot Labs can also complete an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) on the material removed from the surface of the pipe. This ICP-MS test is a very powerful tool for trace Part’s Per Billion- Parts Per Million (ppb-ppm) and ultra-trace (ppm-ppb) elemental analysis. The Pipe analysis and ICP-MS test does not determine if the pipe was manufactured to ASTM requirements. It does however give you a detailed breakdown of the material being removed from the walls of the pipe due to corrosion and/or MIC. Included in this test is “Stereomicroscopic” photos giving a visual view of the deposit analysis.
Sample ICP-MS Analysis Report:
COMPANY ID: Sample ICP-MS Analysis Report
REQUESTED BY: Tim O’Leary
SAMPLE NO: 110205-2
DATE: 11-27-05
ANALYSIS REQUESTED: Analyze sample from sprinkler pipe.
PHYSICAL ANALYSIS:
APPEARANCE: Reddish brown powder-like particles. See photograph # 1.
MICROSCOPIC ANALYSIS: See attached Stereomicroscopic pictures # 2 thru 5.
ORGANIC ANALYSIS: No organic extraction was performed.
INORGANIC ANALYSIS:
PROCEDURE: The deposit was initially ashed at 550oC and then fused at 950°C. The fused
sample was solubilized and then analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma
(ICP) Spectroscopy. The ICP elemental results for a sample was converted to
their oxides and normalized to 100% for reporting.
